For any of you that have ever been to Salobrena, you may have noticed the cane shacks along the beach between Salobrena and La Guardia.  If you are like me, you were probably dying to see what they look like inside.. Well here is your chance.. Each is different of course, some  are as well put together as a cottage, raised floors, beds, cooking facilities, the lot.  Others are rustic little party shacks, at least this one was.. so here is your first look at what the Spanish call a Choza.  Translated it just means hut.

This is kind of a mixed post.. first I have  pics from the shrimp festival, unfortunately they don’t show the fun that was actually had. Shrimp, shrimp and more shrimp was the order of the day..Prices were reasonable, and the live entertainment pretty good.  Then after these photos, I have more from the trip to Nerja, just because it is so nice and it’s only 40 minutes down the road.  First sandy beach you will encounter in the area.

Well, retirement certainly has it’s rewards, one of which is being able to go to the  beach everyday if I want to.. And I want to!

The sun is hot, the water is perfect for swimming..cool but not cold, no jelly fish, and very clear. For those of you that don’t know, there is great snorkeling and diving in the area.  You can snorkel right off shore by the big rock (El Peñon) and see all sorts of colorful fish.

Here are some of the photos from my day at the beach.

We had strong winds all day yesterday which whipped the sea into a bit of a frenzy.  It was a Red Flag day at the beach, which means no swimming.  Do people listen?  Anyway, the waves were big and some kids just couldn’t resist.

The boys of summer.

Another glorious day at the beach for the boys of summer.  The water here now is perfect for swimming or leaping off tall buildings into…okay they are just rocks.

Two weeks ago I posted this picture of the beach, it was Sunday afternoon at 12pm.. Today I went to the same location and took another shot.  This weekend is busy here in Salobreña, but the full on holiday makers won’t get here until after the 1st of July.. For two months this town is awash with tourists, and it’s super fun..the best time of the year.. Best of all, 99percent of the tourism is still Spanish.
